There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that contains many comforts in addition to the casino, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
