There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino wagering is banned. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
