There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
